The origin of life must be the greatest puzzles that the humankind has ever faced. Old as the hills and practically unsolvable, theory of evolution essay, the problem has led to a number of theories, most of which name the divine power as the reason for the universe to exist. Thus, theory of evolution essay, grounding its basic postulated on scientifically proved facts, the theory of evolution poses quite a contrast to the ideas of the existing religions and, therefore, requires a comparison to the other explanations of the origin of life. It must be admitted that the theory of evolution has a number of legit points and has all the rights to be considered the most valid theory of all existing.

Thus, theory of evolution essay, it can be considered that the theory of evolution does have theory of evolution essay contradictions. As opposed to the idea that life forms can be developed in the course of evolution, the creationist theory is also well worth mentioning. Offering an idea of a superior creature that gave life to people and the entire variety of the Earth life forms, the theory of creation might seem far not as impressive and well-grounded as the theory of evolution. Indeed, there are little to no pieces of evidence that prove the divine creation of the Earth and the human race. However, it is still important to mention that the theory of creation is closer rather to a legend than to a scientific justification.

Therefore, it can be considered that the theory of creativity serves rather as the stronghold of moral values than an explanation of the origin of life. Thus, the function of religion in society becomes more obvious. It is clear that religion does not offer any well-grounded explanations of the way the world was created, nor does it provide any pieces of evidence that God is the Creator of the Earth, the human race and the Universe. Instead, religion serves as a guide for people to theory of evolution essay peacefully and decently. Performing their different functions perfectly well, the theory of creationism and the theory of evolution can safely coexist in the modern world.

This fact later becomes a foundation phenomenon for genetics studies and the concept of genetic mutations. Secondly, even though these variations are random, they also can contribute to the creation of advantages for species. For instance, a slimmer predator can run and hunt faster. Darwin named this mechanism of natural adaptation of organisms into changing environments as natural selection. The idea is that during natural selection and adaptation, organisms always gain better traits that can lead to more chances of surviving and reproducing in the future. Thus, this idea of natural selection is among the most influential for breeding.

Therefore, these variations are created and distributed through many populations over time, and that can lead to bigger surviving rates or even the creation of new species. The first debate stands on the fact that theory does not take into account any religious beliefs. This controversial opposition of science and religion is deeply rooted in the history of humanity. Consequently, the theory does not explain the origin of life on Earth and is applicable only from a long-term perspective. Based on that, it also has a vast place for interpretation by readers and a further place for debate. Most of them are based on fossil records that depict a change in earlier species.

For instance, the finding of fossil Archaeopteryx confirmed that birds had reptilian ancestors. Another significant example is the findings of human ancestors, a sign of natural evolution from apes to humans. Natural adaptation and natural selection are concepts that can explain the mutation that happened in colonies of bacteria when they become resistant to antibiotics. Science lives through constant changes in secular theories and society about the beginning of the universe and of life on Earth, which give way to the idea of existentialism.

The report of the NGO Pure Earth suggests that one of the seven deaths occurs due to pollution. In this light, it is important to explore the various types of pollution and its effects on the environment and human beings. Limited time offer! One of the pivotal issues nowadays is the water pollution. The enlargement of the population means more trash and garbage. The rubbish dumps decay and the toxic substances permeate the soil going to the rivers and oceans. Moreover, tons of garbage are thrown directly into the water. There are even special islands for garbage in the oceans. Even though the technological development offers various approaches to garbage utilization, most of the poor countries do not utilize innovative technologies.

Thus, pollution becomes the leading cause of death in underdeveloped low-income countries. Nevertheless, water is contaminated not only due to regular garbage utilization. The plants, factories and mills are the key pollutants of the water. The process water from factories goes to the rivers and seas in neighborhood areas. In some rivers, the water is contaminated to the critical level and is banned from using. The fish and living environment of natural ecosystems are contaminated by dangerous chemicals that causes either the death of the entire ecosystems or hurts the consumers of the contaminated products seafood, fish, water, salt. Additionally, water is polluted by pesticides and fertilizations used in agriculture. The devastating effects of water pollution may be decelerated by installing the water purification mechanisms at factories and plants.

These efforts should be promoted and enhanced on the governmental level. Moreover, states should develop the global programs of the environment protection as the problem is not limited to a particular territory or state. It is a universal hazard that requires combined efforts. Air consists of nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor and inert gases. When the typical structure of air is altered, we can observe the effects of air pollution. The primary reason of air contamination is the effect of the burning fuels. The smoke floats in the air and most people breath it in. Further, it affects the health resulting in respiratory diseases, cancers and other problems.

Another type of air pollutants are dangerous gases, such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and chemical vapors. Those gases undergo the reactions in the higher atmosphere layers and return to the surface in the form of the dangerous chemicals acid rains that ruin the living environment. It is a natural process. However, the high concentration of the gases makes Earth warmer and affects the natural processes on the planet. Thus, air pollution is one of the contributors to the global warming. This is a global issue, which is seen commonly in all countries, including the third—world countries, irrespective of their developmental statuses.

Environmental pollution is when human activities introduce contaminants in the environment, thereby leading to the disruption of the routine processes, causing irreversible changes in the environment. The agents causing pollution are called pollutants. Pollutants are substances occurring in nature or created because of extraneous human activities. Pollutants can also be forms of energies let out in the environment. Based on the pollutants and the pollution caused in the components of the environment, the environmental pollution may be classified as follows:. Any natural resource found in the environment, when used at a higher rate than the ability of its restoration, leads to depletion, thereby causing environmental pollution.

This will lead to the declination of environmental quality and is evidenced by the loss of biodiversity, loss of flora and fauna, the introduction of new diseases and stressful life in the human population, etc. The environment forms a very important aspect of human life because that is where we find the essentials of life e. Due to global industrialization and modernization, there has been environmental pollution. The environmental pollution has greatly affected the quality of life for animals, plants and humans. Hazardous effects including diseases that have emerged as a result of environmental pollution.

The types of environmental pollution are specific to causes and components of the environment. Environmental pollution is classified into groups depending on the natural components as follows; air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution and water pollution. The contaminants of the environment are called pollutants. The main pollutants are industries because industries emit harmful gases in the atmosphere, which cause air pollution, industrial effluents are also discharged into water bodies causing water pollution. Other pollutants include smoke from combustion, greenhouse gasses emission e. Environmental pollution has been a challenge in India. The adverse effects are specific to the type of pollution although some may cut across.

Air pollution has resulted in harm to human health and destruction of the ozone layers in the atmosphere. Water pollution has caused death of aquatic life and acidification. Soil pollution has resulted in unhealthy soil i. India has struggled with challenges of environmental pollution. Environmental pollution has become a great concern to save our planet. We need to adapt various measures to reduce environment pollution. Some of them includes planting trees, reducing the use of non-renewable resources, proper disposal of wastes, etc. It is the responsibility of every individual to save our environment from getting polluted.

We should treat the environment of our earth like our mother. It also nurtures us. If the climate gets polluted then, how can we survive? Earth provides us so many natural resources for our health and growth. But, as time is passing, we are becoming more selfish and keep on polluting our environment. We do not know that if our environment gets more polluted then, it will ultimately affect our health and future too. It will not be possible for us to survive on earth easily. It is unnecessary to tell that environmental pollution has ruined and spread its toxic tentacles inside the basic needs of human, i. It affects our inhaling, drinking, and eating. It also damages the health of animals along with humans. Various things pollute the air like gaseous releases from motor vehicle ignitions and industries, burning fossil fuels inside the air, etc.

The solid industrial waste, oil spills, plastic dumps, and city garbage that thrown into the water pollutes the river and oceans. Similarly, inorganic procedures of agriculture destroy the fertility of the soil. As you know that water is used for drinking, the soil used for producing food, and the air is used for breathing, all of these three contaminated elements insert their pollutants inside the body of human and result in diseases. The diseases that occur due to environmental pollution consist of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, lung cancer, skin cancer, lead poisoning, cardiovascular diseases and stroke, radiation augmented cancers, mercury poisoning, congenital disabilities, allergies, lung diseases owing to occupational exposure to numerous toxin and many more.

The list is unending. Our earth is moving on the way to unhealthy future for every living being. So, we must become aware of the factors that pollute our environment and take some necessary steps to keep our future safe and healthy. Our environment is made of both living and non-living things. The living things include animals, plants, and other microorganisms, whereas air, water, soil, sunlight, etc. Whenever any kind of toxicity is added to our surroundings for a considerably long duration, it leads to environmental pollution.

Some of the major types of pollutions are air, water, soil, noise, light, and nuclear pollution. Smokes from the industries, house chimneys, vehicles, and fuels causes air pollution. Wasted industrial solvents, plastics, and other wastes, sewage etc. Use of pesticides and deforestation are the major causes of soil pollution. The unnecessary honking of the vehicles, use of loudspeakers lead to noise pollution. Although it is hard to realize the light and nuclear pollutions these are equally harmful. Excessively bright lights consume a lot of energy while threatening the environmental balance in several ways. Needless to say, the negative impacts of a nuclear reaction last for many decades to come.

All the constituents are interconnected to each other. As the cycle of nature goes on, the toxicity of one component is passed on to all other components as well. There are various means by which the contamination continues to circle in the environment. We can understand it with an example below. When it rains, the impurities of air gradually dissolve in the water-bodies and soil. When crops are grown in the fields, their roots absorb these harmful toxicants through the contaminated soil and water. The same food is ingested by both animals and human beings. In this way, it reaches the top of the food chain when the herbivores are consumed by the carnivores.

The consequences of environmental pollution can be seen in the form of severe health diseases. More people are suffering from respiratory problems, weaker immunity, kidney and liver infections, cancer, and other chronic illnesses. The aquatic life, including both flora and fauna, is depleting rapidly. The soil quality and crop quality are deteriorating. Global warming has become a major issue as a result of environmental pollution that the world needs to cope up with. The melting icebergs in Antarctica have resulted in the rising sea levels. Natural calamities such as frequent earthquakes, cyclones, etc. Incidents of Hiroshima-Nagasaki and Chernobyl in Russia have led to the irreparable damage to the humankind.

In response to these disasters, every possible measure is being taken by the different countries in the world. More awareness programs are being organized to educate people about the hazards of environmental pollution and the need of protecting our planet. Greener ways of living are becoming popular. Energy-efficient bulbs, eco-friendly vehicles, use of solar and wind energy, are to name some. Governments are also emphasizing on planting more trees, eliminating plastic products, better recycling of natural wastes, and minimal use of pesticides. This kind of organic lifestyle has helped us protect many plant and animal species from becoming extinct while making earth a greener and healthier place to live in.

The presence of a substance in the environment which can be harmful to human beings, plants or animals is what we call as a pollutant and this occurrence is called environmental pollution. We already know a lot about it, yet we intend to do very little to control it. Perhaps we have not yet felt the direct impact it has already had on our lives. For instance, just recently there has been a study by WHO which claims that the average life of a person residing in Delhi has been reduced by 10 years just because of the exposure to the harmful substances in which a person living in Delhi is forced to breathe.

Simply said, environmental pollution, though a concern for the entire world, is yet to see concrete steps towards its control. Environmental pollution is usually thought to be a reference to air pollution. However, it is a general term used to refer pollution occurring in air, soil and water as well as other forms of pollution such as the ones caused due to heat, light, radioactive materials and noise. Each type of environmental pollution has its own set of sources, some of which can be easily identified while some may not be direct sources of pollution, though they may trigger the same. For instance —. Industrial waste — The waste generated from different industries is a major cause of water, air and soil pollution. The chemical waste from industries contaminates the water to such an extent that there have been instances wherein some regions of the world, people suffer from specific diseases due to the presence of contaminated water around them.

Also, smoke or harmful gases such as sulphur, nitrogen and carbon released as residues from the industries get mixed with air and contaminate it. Vehicles — Use of vehicles has become rampant and there has been a massive growth in the last decade. The smoke emitted by vehicles on the roads also pollutes the environment. The harmful smoke of these vehicles causes air pollution and the sounds produced by these vehicles produces causes noise-pollution. Noxious gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are released on combustion of fossil fuels which pollutes the air. We need to understand that if heightening levels of pollution is not regulated in time it will start having a negative impact on our ecosystem.

Lets pledge to save our ecosystem. When pollutants are introduced into a natural environment, they can lead to negative consequences…. Litter, noise, plastic pollution, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, thermal pollution, visual pollution, and water pollution are all major sources of pollution. Solid and liquid particles, as well as certain gases, are the primary sources of air pollution. Car and truck exhaust, factories, dust, pollen, mould spores, volcanoes and wildfires are all sources of these particles and gases. Aerosols are the particles of both solid and liquid that float in our atmosphere. Use public transportation instead of driving.

Use fireplaces and wood stoves sparingly or completely. Leaves, trash and other materials should not be set on fire. Use only electric or battery-powered tools in the yard and garden. When harmful substances are added to the environment, it is known as pollution. Pollution disrupts the natural balance of the ecosystem. The very existence of all life has been put in jeopardy because of this imbalance. Emphysema and other lung and heart diseases are among the long-term health effects of air pollution. The nerves, brain, kidneys, liver, and other organs can suffer long-term damage as a result of air pollution. Air pollution is suspected by some scientists to be the cause of birth defects.

Crops and trees may be harmed by air pollution in numerous ways. A decrease in agricultural crop and commercial forest yields, a decrease in tree seedling survival, and an increase in plant susceptibility to disease, pest, and other environmental stresses can be caused by ground-level ozone GLOO such as harsh weather. New pollution sources were brought on by the Industrial Revolution of the midth century, along with technological advancements. Countries all over the world were beginning to feel the effects of these shifts by the midth century. Additions to the environment that harm or poison living things are considered pollution.

Det bör vara i formatet Numerical Day Month Numerical Year.

Del 4. Dra in första raden i varje stycke.

Inkludera kort men viktig information i dina anteckningar.

Del 8. Alfabetisera ditt citerade material. Alla dina citat bör listas i alfabetisk ordning enligt författarnas efternamn. Citera en bok. Skriv författarens namn i formatet Efternamn, Förnamn.

Plato's Cave Analogy In Book 7 of the Republic, Plato attempted to characterize a philosopher king and to describe the kind knowledge that is necessary for a philosopher king. He defines a philosopher as a lover of knowledge. And this knowledge must be of things as they are and not simply of belief. The Analogy of the Cave is used to compare the effect and the lack of knowledge or education on human nature as well as the responsibility that accompanies it.

Plato describes the cave as an underground dwelling with an entrance up at a distance. The men that live there are chained and can only see in front of them. They represent the uneducated. There is a fire that provides them light, but it is above and behind them. Between the light and them is a path that has a low wall alongside it. Men carry all sorts…. Teenage pregnancy analogy The causes of teenage pregnancy are much like the reasons that teenagers drive recklessly -- teenagers have trouble seeing beyond the needs of the moment, and their immediate satisfaction. Teens feel as if they are adults, because of the tremendous hormonal and emotional shift that occurs with adolescence.

They are angry when adult rules and laws attempt to hem them in. They chafe at even the most reasonable safety requirements, in an attempt to show their independence. But the more they attempt to act like an adult, either by breaking speeding laws, or having sexual relations before they are mature enough to take appropriate precautions, the more they show their essential immaturity. Additionally, teens who are depressed, in search of an identity, or who are self-destructive as a way of coping with life's challenges may use either parenthood or the persona of a daredevil as a way…. Kant's First Analogy: The Permanence Of Substance In Space And Time It's not 'all in your head.

Despite attempts by some of his contemporaries to deny the reality of material existence, Kant instead proposed that material objects had an external reality in space and time that was 'real' beyond the images they presented to the human observer's mind. Reality had an existence in space and time beyond psychological perceptions of the observer. Thus, Kant's first analogy states that all through all possible changes of an object's appearances, the essential substance of a 'thing' persists, even if the observer has an optical illusion to the contrary. The object's essential substance…. Faith can be a difficult thing to maintain during hardship, and both the magi and the author were rewarded for their faith when they "came to a temperate valley" line The valley in the poem represents the warmth of feeling that one's faith has been justified. Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka A Discussion about the Methods the Narrator uses to Control the Audience's Perceptions and Attitudes about the Characters and Events The Metamorphosis is a story that makes an interesting use of the third person narrative by narrating the story from a rather unique perspective, but also evolving as the story progresses. In the beginning of the story the narrator is a witness to all events and is described as being limitedly "omniscient," or being knowledgeable about everything that is going on in relation to the story from one perspective.

For example, the narrator is able to illustrate to the reader all of the thought and emotions that are held by the protagonist Gregor Samsa, and after his death this perspective is broadened to including the inner most thoughts of other members of the Samsa family as well. The level of understanding that the narrator can share…. References Beicken, P. Kafka's Narrative Rhetoric. Journal of Modern Literature, Kafka, F. Gutenberg Project. Rhodes, C. Kafka's "Metamorphoisis": Rellion and Punishment. Monatshefte, Prejudice Against Philosophy Plato BCE is often termed as the greatest Western philosopher. Historians like A. Whitehead like to quote: "The safest general characterization of the European philosophical tradition is that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato. In defense of philosophers one can refer to Plato's definition of what a philosopher is and how useful he is to society. Plato's magnum opus "Republic" is considered as one of the masterpieces of western civilization.

The central questions of the Republic are "What is Justice" and whether it is better to live justly or unjustly. To answer these questions, Plato first constructs a perfectly Just City tate. A Just City, according to the 'Republic', is one in which there is the perfect arrangement. Minds," Norman Malcolm attempts to highlight the difficulty of establishing the existence of minds other than one's own, specifically by dismantling the so-called "argument from analogy" Malcolm This actually makes Malcolm's argument a little easier to track, because he constructs it carefully in order to avoid the same logical fallacies he believes the argument from analogy engages in. By carefully tracking Malcolm's argument, one can see not only how the argument from analogy is insufficient as evidence for the knowledge of other minds, but also how Malcolm makes a convincing case for the ultimate impossibility of this knowledge, or at least, that the lack of this knowledge does not actually represent a true problem for philosophy.

Malcolm begins his argument by outlining a number of different variations of the argument from analogy. He begins with the most basic form, which is the idea that "I conclude that other human…. Darwin Had the Enlightenment adequately prepared 19th century readers for Darwin's Origin of the Species? The Enlightenment view of the science of life was neatly summed up by Diderot in his Encyclopedia, in many ways a signature product of the Enlightenment's dedication to setting forth the foundations of human knowledge. As Diderot notes in his prefaratory comments, what we call biology falls under the heading of "Natural History": The divisions of natural history derive from the existing diversity of the facts of nature, and the diversity of the facts of nature from the diversity of the states of nature.

Paley's Argument From Design William Paley's version of the argument from design is that Nature has a discernible order to it; a design and therefore it can be inferred that there is a Creator behind it.

Paley reached this conclusion through using an analogy involving a watch and an ordinary stone, on the basis of which he inferred that if from finding a watch on the ground, it can be reasoned that the watch was an object that had been designed by someone for a purpose, the same logic could also be applied to a stone. Paley built his theory by addressing conceivable objections to his analogy: the conclusion that the watch had been designed for a purpose would have been reached even if an observer had no prior knowledge of the object; or if the watch was not working at the time of reasoning; or even in the case…. Upstairs analysis "to the One Upstairs:" God as Boss In "To the One Upstairs," Charles Simic personifies God by comparing the deity to a boss at an office or workplace.

While Simic's references and analogy may be considered to be somewhat unorthodox, and possibly heretical and blasphemous. There are several aspects of the poem that help to make it unique and discriminate it from other literary works. Some elements that allow "To the One Upstairs" to be engaging and draw the reader in include the poem's theme, the personification of God, and the analogy that Simic is able to draw between a boss and God. Though the poem does not name God as its subject, it is highly religious, a theme that carries through the entire poem. References Charles Simic. org: From the Academy of American Poets. Simic, C. The fact that people are chained to the wall is a metaphor which suggests the fact that human perceptions are influenced and shaped by the environment we live in through its customs, beliefs and values. Furthermore, unlike the religiously homogenous states in Europe, America is very diverse and therefore much of ecclesiastical architecture has no application.

Furthermore the author sees the misappropriation of designs for purposes other than their original purpose as the surest sign of decline. What the Senate most certainly does not need are more people from larger states to argue over minute details of issues, and indecipherably present their opinion on such matters.

Most naturalized citizens do not possess knowledge of America a great tool to give the president. That would allow him, or her, the ability to edit specific provisions a bill, without out completely vetoing it. Although, if a bill needed to be passed quickly, a line item veto method would be inefficient. Nixon quickly took a different approach from the men that came before him; although he entered office at a trying time for the American people, he insisted that the public needed the hard facts, not inspirational speeches. It is known that Alben W. Barkley , a Democrat and the Senate Majority Leader, called the film "silly and stupid", and said it "makes the Senate look like a bunch of crooks". Imagine the Vice President of the United States winking at a pretty girl in the gallery in order to encourage a filibuster! Pete Harrison , a respected journalist and publisher of the motion picture trade journal Harrison's Reports , suggested that the Senate pass a bill allowing theater owners to refuse to show films that "were not in the best interest of our country".

That did not happen, but one of the ways that some senators attempted to retaliate for the damage they felt the film had done to the reputation of their institution was by pushing the passage of the Neely Anti-Block Booking Bill, which eventually led to the breakup of the studio-owned theater chains in the late s. Columbia responded by distributing a program which put forward the film's patriotism and support of democracy and publicized the film's many positive reviews. Other objections were voiced as well. Joseph P. Capra and Cohn responded, citing the film's review, which mollified Kennedy to the extent that he never followed up, although he privately still had doubts about the film.

The film was banned in Hitler's Germany , Mussolini's Italy , and in Franco's Spain. In the Soviet Union , the film was released to cinemas in December under the title '. According to Capra, the film was also dubbed in certain European countries to alter the message of the film so it conformed with official ideology. When a ban on American films was imposed in German occupied France in , some theaters chose to show Mr. Smith Goes to Washington as the last movie before the ban went into effect. One theater owner in Paris reportedly screened the film nonstop for 30 days after the ban was announced.

The critical response to the film was more measured than the reaction by politicians, domestic and foreign. The critic for The New York Times , for instance, Frank S. Nugent , wrote that "[Capra] is operating, of course, under the protection of that unwritten clause in the Bill of Rights entitling every voting citizen to at least one free swing at the Senate. Capra's swing is from the floor and in the best of humor; if it fails to rock the august body to its heels — from laughter as much as from injured dignity — it won't be his fault but the Senate's, and we should really begin to worry about the upper house.

Smith Goes to Washington has been called one of the quintessential whistleblower films in American history. James Murtagh and Dr. Jeffrey Wigand cited this film as a seminal event in U. history at the first " Whistleblower Week in Washington " May 13—19, Smith Goes to Washington has often been listed as among Capra's best, but it has been noted that it "marked a turning point in Capra's vision of the world, from nervous optimism to a darker, more pessimistic tone. Beginning with American Madness , such Capra films as Lady for a Day , It Happened One Night , Mr.

In Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , however, the decent common man is surrounded by a venal, petty and thuggish group of crooks. Everyone in the film — except for Jefferson Smith and his tiny cadre of believers — is either in the pay of the political machine run by Edward Arnold's James Taylor or complicit in Taylor's corruption through their silence, and they all sit by as innocent people, including children, are brutalized and intimidated, rights are violated, and the government is brought to a halt". Nevertheless, Smith's filibuster and the tacit encouragement of the Senate President are both emblematic of the director's belief in the difference that one individual can make. This theme would be expanded further in Capra's It's a Wonderful Life and other films. Smith Goes to Washington was nominated for 11 Academy Awards , but won only one.
